Senators Kipchumba Murkomen and Susan Kihika have become the first casualties of the political rivalry between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto.
This is after they lost their Senate seats on Monday.
In a Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group meeting at State House, Nairobi, on Monday, Murkomen who was Majority Leader in the Senate was replaced by West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio.
Poghisio will be deputized by Isiolo Senator, Fatuma Dullo.
Susan Kihika, who was the Senate Majority Chief Whip, was replaced by Muranga Senator, Irungu Kangata.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has grown increasingly unhappy with Mr. Murkomen’s stewardship of the House business and the rebellious tone of his recent pronouncements that border on those of an opposition figure.
Insiders within Jubilee said Uhuru‘s chose Pogisio in an attempt to pre-empt hard feelings from Rift Valley, where Dr. Ruto holds sway.
Kihika and Murkomen are close lieutenants of Deputy President and they have been campaigning for Ruto’s bid instead of implementing Jubilee Party’s agenda
