Deputy President William Ruto’s political base in Rift Valley appears to have been built on quicksand and not the solid rock as he has made us believe.
This is after one of his ardent supporters in Rift Valley dumped him for ODM Leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja movement in a move that has left the region shaken to the core.
In a statement, Turkana South MP James Lomenen ditched Ruto’s UDA party and joined the UPYA party which is part of the Azimio.
The influential MP was received to the UPYA party by Treasury CS Ukur Yattani on Tuesday. t
The MP, who is eyeing the Turkana county governor seat, has been leaning towards Ruto’s camp until Tuesday when he defected to UPYA.
He is expected to face off with energy CS John Munyes for the Turkana governor seat.
Munyes is in the Azimio la Umoja movement and he is likely to vie on an ODM party ticket.
Munyes has become Raila Odinga’s point man in Turkana County after his political son Governor Nanok defected to the DP’s camp.
Nanok was elected on the ODM ticket and he is serving his second and last term. He is the director of presidential campaigns at DP Ruto’s camp.
The UPYA party was formed to consolidate the support of North Eastern region counties.
